Old Soul Revival Opens for Rodney Atkins at Sunshine State Ball
Junior League Announces Event Entertainment and “Find the Orange” Campaign
TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (Dec. 19, 2018) – The New Year in Florida kicks off with a party with a purpose, thanks to the women of the Junior League of Tallahassee. The volunteer organization will host the inaugural Sunshine State Ball, Jan. 11, 2019, celebrating everything that makes Florida the best place to live, work and raise a family, along with the volunteer work that strengthens communities.
The black-tie Sunshine State Ball will host Tallahassee residents and guests from around the Sunshine State, welcoming them to the Capital City to enjoy dinner and live entertainment, with proceeds supporting the Junior League’s mission of improving the lives of children and families.
Country Music at its Finest
In the latest news surrounding the event, held during Florida’s inauguration week at the Donald L. Tucker Civic Center, Tallahassee-based Old Soul Revival will officially get the party started. The band will open for Rodney Atkins, the event’s headliner.
Ball organizers say attendees will enjoy southern rock at its finest, with the addition of Old Soul Revival, an authentic honky tonk band which includes a blues guitarist, an Appalachian fiddle player, a funk drummer, and a traditional country singer. The band is steeped in classic, traditional country, and says it loves presenting great old songs with feeling and passion.
“We could not have asked for a better lineup of entertainment,” said Junior League of Tallahassee President Lex Phillips. “We know Old Soul Revival will bring great energy to the Ball, and we’re so happy to celebrate with a band steeped in southern music and grown in our own community.”
Find the Orange
In addition to the entertainment lineup, in an effort to engage the community and build excitement surrounding the Ball, the Junior League of Tallahassee and its partners have started the “Find the Orange” campaign. One lucky winner will receive two free general admission tickets to the Sunshine State Ball. To be entered into the drawing, participants must follow instructions printed on oranges hidden at any of these partner locations: Arbor Trace, Computer Repair Doctor, Esposito Garden Center, Hearth & Soul, Madison Social, Narcissus, Pink Narcissus, Nic’s Toggery, Proof Brewing Company, Rogers, Gunter, Vaughn Insurance, Inc., and Table 23.
After sharing a photo of the orange on social media, using the hashtag #SunshineStateBall, and tagging both the local business and the Junior League of Tallahassee, participants will return the orange to the business’ front desk, and provide his or her contact information to be entered into the drawing. The winner of two general admission tickets will be announced the first week of January.
A Party with a Purpose
In addition to Florida pride — creatively infused into the event’s details — the Ball will showcase and celebrate the Junior League of Tallahassee’s historic impact to help improve the lives of families. The organization has a proven track record of identifying unmet community needs, developing solutions and seeing them through to fruition. Since 1960, the JLT has served as an organization of women committed to promoting volunteerism, developing the potential of women and improving communities through the effective action and leadership of trained volunteers and contributing more than $2,500,000 to the Tallahassee community. Its current major initiatives include work with Second Harvest of the Big Bend and HOPE Community/Big Bend Homeless Coalition.
The Junior League of Tallahassee, as the “Capital City League,” is considered a resource and an example for finding upstream or downstream solutions for issues impacting Florida communities and addressing the root causes of problems. The Sunshine State Ball aims to highlight the importance of addressing and solving long-term problems while celebrating how far the Junior League has come and putting dollars directly back into the community to ensure the organization’s work continues for years to come.
